How to visit Thailand during Covid-19 Pandermic

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Thai Ministry of Public Health has required that any Thai or foreign nationals traveling to Thailand must secure a COVID-19 PCR test with a negative result, COVID-19 health insurance and they must undergo a mandatory quarantine at Alternative State Quarantine (ASQ) facilities.

Special Tourist Visa (STV)

STV Visa (Special Tourist Visa) is a special visa created during the Covid-19 Pandemic for long stay tourists who would like to travel in Thailand or at least 30 days. Foreigners will be able to apply for this visa until 30 September 2021.

Others visas cannot change to STV while they are in Thailand and STV visas cannot change to others too.

The Tourists need to provide proof of Long-term accommodation receipt, one-way flight booking confirmation, 90 days of Covid-19 Insurance coverage to $ US 100,000

All tourists need to book Alternative State Quarantine (ASQ) or Alternative Local Quarantine (ALQ) for 15 nights which is the package with full board meal and hospital partner. While quarantine tourist cannot leave the hotel room and will be check Covid-19 test negative result

Tourist Visa (TR)

The Tourist Visa is grants up to 60 days for a stay in Thailand and can be applied by residents of any country, some of the documents required for the application with the Thai embassy/consulate in their home country are as followed:

  • Bank statement showing proof of income in the last six months with the minimum amount of B500,000 (Removed)
  • Proof of medical and traveling insurance that covers COVID-19 worth at least USD100,000 in coverage for the entire stay duration
  • Approved visa and approved certificate of entry (COE).
  • Proof of booking payment for an accommodation during the entire stay (and also a booking payment for an alternative state quarantine [ASQ] hotel/hospital, if tourists do not prefer to self-isolate in government-designated facilities)
  • Proof of a negative COVID-19 polymerize chain reaction (PCR) swab test taken within 72 hours before flight

Process of Special Tourist Visa (STV)

  1. International Tourist should notify their intension for long stay travel in Thailand to Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and must provide a photo of the information page of the passport that the applicant will use for entry into Thailand and notify the applicant’s current Location/Residence (City/Country) and state the nearest Thai Embassy/Consulate to the applicant.
  2. Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will inform the official agent to begin the application.
  3. The agent submits the applicant list to Thai Immigration Bureau to check criminal record of applicants
  4. The agent submits the applicant list to Foreign Ministry, Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration and Tourism Ministry.
  5. The agent will inform about the STV VISA Packages to the applicants, to choose and requests full prepayment. The package will be inclusive of:
  6. Foreign Ministry approves COE and informs Thai Embassy/Consulate at applicant’s stated origin.
  7. The applicant collects COE and STV at Embassy/Consulate
  8. The International Tourist arrives at airport in Thailand, Health screening upon arrival by Public Health Ministry
  9. Tourist receives STV for 90 days (with two extensions available for 90 days each)
  10. Tourist strictly follows ASQ/ALQ quarantine process until the end of 15 nights’ quarantine.

Process of Tourist Visa (TR)

Alternative State Quarantine (ASQ)

The mandatory quarantine is required for foreigners permitted to enter Thailand such as diplomats and non-immigrant B visa with work permit holders including their families, business representatives and experts invited by the government, permanent residents, foreigners with Thai families such as Thai marriage visa holders, students and their guardians, medical tourists and their attendants, business visa holders, Thai Elite visa holders, APEC Cardholders, special tourist visa holders, SETV tourist visa holders, non-immigrant O, OA and OX retirement visa holders and migrant workers with official documents.

Alternative Local Quarantine (ALQ)

The mandatory quarantine is required for foreigners permitted to enter Thailand such as diplomats and non-immigrant B visa with work permit holders including their families, business representatives and experts invited by the government, permanent residents, foreigners with Thai families such as Thai marriage visa holders, students and their guardians, medical tourists and their attendants, business visa holders, Thai Elite visa holders, APEC Cardholders, special tourist visa holders, SETV tourist visa holders, non-immigrant O, OA and OX retirement visa holders and migrant workers with official documents.
